Let me be the first to tell you: Cannabis is not what it’s cracked up to be. In entertainment, it has been portrayed to make people behave in very comical ways. Take the Friday Trilogy or any Cheech and Chong movie. Sure, consuming too much of anything can appear funny, but have extreme effects. In reality, most seasoned cannabis users find themselves actually developing a tolerance for the THC found in marijuana and begin to seek out more potent strains. Cannabis isn’t just about smoking, laughing, or the munchies. For many, the benefits of focus, relaxation, and an overall improvement of mood are their take-a-ways.
For this reason, the GC Team decided to simply talk about it. I had the privilege of conversing with a diversely unique and creative woman by the name of Li. She is into switches and loud clicks, and her IG videos of her building keyboards and trying out different switches captivate me. She literally makes me want to build my own keyboard, too! Professionally, she’s a coder, and seems to really enjoy the field. Without further adieu, let’s learn a bit more about her. You can find her on IG under the handle: @cannabisandcodedev.

Tell me a little more about you. What do you do for a living?
In all reality, I started off as an admin. That was my first job. During my spare time, I just kept learning more about web development. I worked at that job for 5 years. I started to work on websites on the side while in that position.
My role now is that of Senior Developer. I’ve been at my current company for 3 years. I’ve been doing this type of work for about 15 years. I started out as a freelancer. Along the way, I kept getting better-paying jobs that offered greater responsibility.
How did you get started in coding?
I was actually always interested in it. That’s how I got started. I remember when I bought my first domain back in 2002. I got my basic hosting. I remember how I used to code in a notepad and then use it to update my blog every day. It’s interesting seeing where I am now and looking back at it.
How did cannabis use affect your studies?
Well, I tried to go back to school because my dad told me to get a degree. While in school for my IT degree, I smoked so much weed that people actually asked me, “How do you study while you’re high?” In all honesty, I was very high, but high for me meant higher concentration and focus. My grades were always good marks. My degree was important to me. Weed doesn’t make you lose brain cells as people claim. I actually studied better after smoking.
What is your preferred means of cannabis consumption?
I prefer dabbing now. My tolerance is so high so that’s what I need.
What do you see for yourself in the future of your career?
For right now, I don’t know how much further I’m going to go than Senior Developer. I don’t want to be a manager. I’ve done that before, and I’m not doing it again. I guess I will just learn more languages. I also love programming too. I make and post videos of me building different keyboards and trying out different switches. My old Instagram got deleted. I was growing my following and then they deleted it. But, for now, I’ll keep branching out in creativity.
